A new Berlin underground? Anfang 2010 fanden sich in Berlin MusikerInnen, DJ’s, VideokünstlerInnen und ModedesignerInnen zusammen, um unter dem Label A Almighty Wire Musik, Mode und Videokunst gezielt miteinander zu verknüpfen. Die in Berlin lebenden KünstlerInnen sind nicht nur von der Manchester Institution Factory Records (Blue Monday, Joy Division, OMD) inspiriert, sondern teilen auch eine spezifische Ästhetik: „This specific aesthetic that can only be described as Post Wave“, heißt es auf der myspace-Seite. Tatsächlich speist sich der Sound von Acts wie Aniaetleprogrammeur, they shoot horses und V:D:O:R:D:O aus all den Genres, die sich seit dem Niedergang des New-Wave-Sounds der Nuller-Jahre entstanden sind: Lo-Fi, Twee und Noise. Am 24. November veröffentlicht das Kollektiv seine erste Compilation. kostja.

It’s a Crime – Noch eine letzte Tour, dann ist Schluss mit Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Im Juli hatte Owen Ashworth auf seiner Homepage verkündet, CTFPA nach 13 Jahren erfolgreicher Arbeit nicht weiter fortführen zu wollen, um sich endlich neuen musikalischen Herausforderungen stellen zu können.
Am 26. Oktober ist Herr Ashworth in Berlin. Wer bisher noch keine Gelegenheit hatte CFTPA live zu sehen, sollte diesen Termin nicht verpassen. Wir möchte ihm an dieser Stelle weitherin alles Gute wünschen! kostja.

You may have already heard that I’ve decided to end Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. I’d just like to clarify that this doesn’t mean that I’m quitting music. I love writing & recording songs, & I hope to make lots more records in my lifetime. But, after nearly thirteen years of being the dude from Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, I’m ready for a fresh start & a new challenge. So, after December 5, 2010 (the thirteen year anniversary of my first show), I’m throwing out the old songs & I’m trying something new. I’ll have more news about new projects & plans in the coming months.
Between now & December 5, I’m going to try to play as many Casiotone for the Painfully Alone shows as I can. In September & October, I’ll be touring the United States & Canada with some good friends from Melbourne, Australia. They’re called Otouto & they are so great. Those tour dates are up now on the SHOWS page. Later in October & on into November, I’ll be touring Europe & the United Kingdom. That tour is still being booked, but I should have the dates ready to share in a couple of weeks. I’m coming home for Thanksgiving, & then I’m going to try to do something extra special for the big thirteen year anniversary grand finale. I’m not exactly sure what it’ll be yet, but I’ll let you know as soon as I figure it out.
I imagine I’ll be repeating this sentiment a lot between now & December, but thank you so, so much to everyone who has been so supportive of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone over the past thirteen years. I never would have started playing shows or making records without the encouragement of some great friends, & it’s blowing my ever-loving mind how many more friends I’ve made through music over the years. Seriously, thank you.

War Chillwave Ende letzten Jahres noch ein Label für psychedelisch tighte Popmusik wurde das Genre in den letzten Monaten durch eine Schwemme unhörbarer Releases verwässert, denen jeglichen Pop-Appeal fehlte. TV Girl machen mit ihrer selbstbetitelten Debüt-EP Schluss endlich damit und veröffentlichten auf bandcamp den ersten knackigen Chillwave-Release seit langem. kostja.

Die 23-jährige Annika Henderson alias Anika läutet mit ihrem selbstbetitelten Debüt den Musik-Herbst 2010 ein und macht ganz plötzlich Schluss mit Sommerloch. Ähnlich wie Casey Daniels (White Hinterland) verknüpft die aus England stammende Wahlberinerin sphärische Synthies und melancholische Melodien mit tief groovenden Dub-Bässen, denen eine flotte Kickdrum Beine macht. Im Gegensatz zu Deniels butterweichem Gesang wirkt Hendersons Stimme jedoch anziehend apathisch. Zudem sind ihre Texte äußerst politisch, was mit Sicherheit daran liegt, dass Henderson in der Menschenrechtsgruppe Innocence Project aktiv ist.
Die Britin produzierte ihr Debüt übrigens gemeinsam mit Beak>, dem Sideprojekt des Portishead-Drummers Geoff Barrow. Anika lohnt sich aber nicht nur für Portishead-Fans, sondern auch für diejenigen, die bisher keinen richtigen Zugang zu Dub finden konnten. kostja.

Mumblecore is an American independent film movement that arose at the turn of the twenty-first century. It is primarily characterized by ultra-low budget production (often employing digital video cameras), focus on personal relationships between twenty-somethings, improvised scripts, and non-professional actors. Filmmakers in this genre include Lynn Shelton, Andrew Bujalski, Mark Duplass, Jay Duplass, Aaron Katz, Joe Swanberg, and Barry Jenkins.
The term „mumblecore“ was coined by Eric Masunaga, a sound editor who has worked with Bujalski. Masunaga coined the term one night at a bar during the 2005 South by Southwest Film Festival, but it was Bujalski who first used it in an interview with indieWIRE. The directors of the films are sometimes referred to collectively as „mumblecorps,“ as in press corps. Film journalists have also used the terms „bedhead cinema“, and „Slackavetes,“ a reference to independent film director John Cassavetes and Richard Linklater’s dialogue heavy, lo-fi 90s film Slacker.
New York-based Benten Films, a boutique DVD label run by film critics, has championed such mumblecore titles as Swanberg’s LOL, and Katz’s first two films: Dance Party USA and Quiet City (Quelle: Wiki). kostja.
